Older Silverado HD models are powered by a Vortec 6.0L V8 instead of the new 6.6L gas V8. The 2500HD can tow 14,400 lbs. with the Vortec 6.0L V8 and 15,400 lbs. when powered by the Duramax® 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8. While the 3500HD has the ability to tow up to 14,300 lbs. with Vortec 6.0L V8 and 23,100 lbs. with the Duramax® 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8.
