Lifted Truck vs. Stock Truck: What's the Difference?
If you shop around for trucks, you may have heard of lifted trucks. Lifted trucks, as the name implies, feature a lift of at least a couple of inches. This can change how your truck drives and what you can use it for. But how are lifted trucks different from regular stock trucks? Which should you choose for your driving in Arizona?
What is a Lift Kit?
A lift kit literally raises your pickup truck and creates the "lift." There are two types of lift kits: body lifts and suspension lifts. Both lift your vehicle in different ways and offer different benefits. Ultimately, however, lift kits aim to increase the distance between your truck's body and the ground.
Can You Install a Lift Kit Yourself?
Whether or not you install a lift kit yourself depends on several factors. First, remember that lift kits are not like changing your oil; they require time, skill, and patience. Body lift kits are less time-consuming to install than suspension lift kits, but either way, you will still need a solid array of tools, such as floor jacks, socket sets and ratchets, a power drill, and more.
Please also keep in mind that lift kits can affect other parts and components of your vehicle, such as the shocks, control arms, and leaf springs. There is a good chance you will need to install new versions of these parts, as they may not function correctly after the lift.

Body Lifts
Body lifts, as the name implies, lift the main body of your truck. Body lifts are the easiest and most affordable method of lifting your truck. The lift occurs between the frame and body of your vehicle. A body lift kit increases your center of gravity, but does not increase your ground clearance.
Suspension Lifts
Suspension lifts are more expensive and complicated, but they offer some benefits that body lifts do not. For instance, your ground clearance will increase as the suspension lift lifts the suspension system from the axles. The result is improved handling and performance on off-road drives. Please also remember that suspension lifts can make it harder to tow, as taller vehicles are more prone to sway and body roll.
Leveling Kits
Leveling kits are helpful tools that can adjust your truck's lift. Some trucks will roll off the showroom floor with a taller front or rear. A leveling kit will bring the front or rear level with the other half.
Should You Choose a Lifted Truck or a Stock Truck?
Lifted trucks can change your center of gravity, affect your towing, and increase your ground clearance. Stock trucks remain in their factory-built form, without change.
